Maritime Course - Shipyard Employment

The purpose of this maritime course, 29 CFR 1915 - Occupational Safety and Health for Shipyard Employment, is to introduce shipyard operations and standards to the student. The objective is to provide an overview of the 1915 regulations and jurisdiction responsibilities along with how to apply them to the inspection process. The topics covered include jurisdictional enforcement considerations, ship repair, shipyard standards, shipyard hazards and accident/injury statistics. The course consists of several activities requiring the student to analyze various scenarios to determine the hazard(s), related standard(s) and corrective actions. Course highlights include a field trip to an operating shipyard for a shipyard orientation and a ship repair process review.
