This federal interpretation was created in response to several multi-state variances from chimney companies across the nation. This interpretation dated 8/24/2009 updates a previous interpretation from 2/08/2007 (both are included in this file). This document provides, through interpretation, alternate procedures which can be followed by chimney companies nation-wide without the need for a variance from certain fall protection standards related to personnel hoists and the tackle requirements of boatswains' chairs.
