On May 20, 2024, OSHA issued a final rule amending the HCS. OSHA stated the changes were designed to conform to the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, primarily Revision 7, to address issues that arose during the implementation of the 2012 update to the HCS, and to provide better alignment with other U.S. agencies and international trading partners, while enhancing the effectiveness of the standard.
The N.C. Commissioner of Labor adopted this final rule verbatim with an effective date of January 1, 2025. Refer to the May 20, 2024 Federal Register (Vol. 89, No. 98) for the details related to these requirements.
